What Do Hemorrhoids Look Like (Part 2)?
The human body is made up of tissues, muscles, joints, organs, blood vessels, etc. Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to the rest of the body. Veins are the blood vessels that carry the body’s wastes back to the heart. It is in these veins that hemorrhoids form.

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins that form in the lower part of the human body, specifically in the rectum, around the anus or in the vulva. There may be many reasons why Hemorrhoids form and there are many types of hemorrhoids depending on where they form in the body, why they formed and what happens after they form (prolapsed, blood clot, etc).
Hemorrhoids do not look the same on different people. Depending on the skin color, the size of the hemorrhoid, the position (inside the skin or outside) whether it is inside the anus, outside the anus or prolapsed (which starts inside, but falls into the outside of the anus), if it is infected or not and if the veins have clot inside, the hemorrhoid looks entirely different.
Sometimes they look like small marbles with different colors such as pink, red, brown, etc., that are situated around the anus or drop down from the anus. Sometimes we see only a single hemorrhoid. At other times, there may be multiple hemorrhoids or they may look like multiple ones.
If hemorrhoids are bleeding, the site will be deep red or brown (crusted blood) in color. Most of the time, because of the position, we may not be able to see it. Many of us use mirrors to see the hemorrhoid to pin point the location of the hemorrhoids. However it is difficult to see because, most of the time it blends with the skin. If the hemorrhoids bleed, the skin around it will appear red. The stools also turn red or you may find mucous in the bathroom tissue if the hemorrhoids are infected.
Prolapsed internal hemorrhoids may be easier to see since they come out of the mouth of the anus and hang down. Also, a thrombosed hemorrhoid has a blood clot in it which makes it easier to spot if it is outside the anus.
When doctors look through instruments such as colonoscope, anoscope, etc, they may be able to see minute details about the hemorrhoids and
External hemorrhoids are swollen veins usually felt under the skin right outside the anus. They appear like a small distension and are usually the color of our skin in that area. A thrombosed external hemorrhoid is one in which a blood clot has formed. This can be extremely painful and may start to bleed in the initial stages. A doctor may be able to drain the clot and heal the area, but unless the conditions of the body (diet, exercise, relaxation) change, the hemorrhoid will most probably return to the same site.
Remember not to touch the hemorrhoids with our fingers because they can easily get infected. Always wash your hands before and after a bowel movement so that you don’t spread any bacteria around.
Now that we have a good idea about how the hemorrhoids look, it may be easier to determine what type of hemorrhoid it may be. However, by using the right medication and changing our diet to add more fiber may help avoid all of these different types of hemorrhoids and their associated pain and difficulties.
